Here Are 5 Simple Moon Rituals To Spark Your Spirit This Halloween.

2020 has not disappointed us with plot twists and before we close out October we have one more; a full moon on Halloween night! This isn’t just any full moon, the Oct. 31st full moon also happens to be a "blue moon," a name given to the second full moon to occur in a single calendar month. This relatively rare full moon designates a special occurrence of heightened energy and endings.

So how can we make use of this good ol’ lunar energy? Lunar phases end with the full moon meaning that the end of the lunar cycle is a time when the seeds of intention you sowed are starting to blossom. Like the universe reminding us to stop, collaborate and listen - or at least slow down and reassess the path we’re on.

Here are 5 simple moon rituals you can perform to spark your spirit this Halloween.

1. Take a cleansing bath.

A cleansing bath isn’t your typical soap, candles and R & B bubble bath. It's a bath

to rid yourself of negativity, clear your chakras , revitalize your aura, and heighten your self awareness. It can be made using ingredients such as milk, herbs and stones that charge the water with healing vibrations. You can find out how here.

2. Release and Renew

What are some things we are dealing with that no longer serve us? Since full moons signify the end of the lunar cycle, now is a good time to breathe, stretch, shake and let it go! When it comes

to manifestation nothing is stronger than pen and paper. Write down everything that is not serving you on strips of paper. I like to write them individually like this because it’s humbling to see how much we are actually dealing with in tangible form. This could be things you are worried about, bad habits you want to get rid of, negative thoughts, draining soul ties you want to break...anything that you want to release from your life. Once you have your list, burn it! Release that negative energy by watching each and every one of them go up in flames and focus on removing those obstacles from your life.

3. Cleanse and/or Charge your crystals

After rinsing your crystals with water set them out on the earth in the moonlight. If you are unable to place them directly on the ground, any natural surface will work. Note that all stones cannot be placed in water so be sure you check beforehand. Be sure to gather your crystals before sunrise. Once you have all of your crystals back inside, charge them with your intentions. After you charge them with your intentions it’s best to not let others handle them as they will absorb the energies of other people. And no one wants their bad juju after doing all that cleansing work.

4. Make moon water

This is my personal favorite. You can harness the moon’s energy by making moon water. I use my moon water to water my plants, cook, take a sip in the morning after I chant, cleanse my stones and so much more! The best part is it's really easy to make. You simply need a glass container with a lid and some purified water. Fill your container with the water, place it outside in the direct moonlight overnight but be sure to get it before the sun comes up the next morning. You can also use a Sharpie to write your intentions on the container if you like or spend some time concentrating on them as you set up your materials.

5. Purify your mental and physical space

This is by far the most common and favored full moon ritual. Smudging involves burning herbs, usually various types of sage bundles or Palo Santo to purify or cleanse your mental and physical space. To start, light the sage or Palo Santo and set your intentions. Using your hand or a feather, let the smoke drift around your head, over your heart and down your body. Once you cleanse yourself, waft the smoke through your house being sure to open at least one window and allow the smoke to drift into all corners of each room. As you do this focus on and repeat your intention. Choose something like, “I release all things and thoughts that no longer serve me. Once your mind and space is clear, resist the urge to start something new; no new projects, put Tinder on pause - which means no new relationships and no major decisions. There’ll be time for that later once the new moon appears. For now, keep your mind on the seeds you’ve already sown.

So if trick-or-treat plans push through despite Covid you’ll still have plenty of time once the kids are back in bed to meditate and make use of the moon’s power.
